Today, Long Lead and Campside Media were honored with a 2024 national Edward R. Murrow Award, which recognizes excellence in broadcast and digital journalism, for Long Shadow: In Guns We Trust.

It’s the first Murrow Award for Long Lead, which has had an epic run of awards this year, receiving top honors from the Society for Professional Journalists, the Newhouse Mirror Awards, and the Webby Awards.

Long Shadow: In Guns We Trust, hosted by Pulitzer Prize finalist Garrett Graff, was honored in the “non-traditional media” category, along with other notable journalism outlets including ProPublica, The Associated Press, and Frontline PBS.

“The RFK Book and Journalism Awards honor outstanding writing on issues that reflect Senator Robert F. Kennedy’s concerns, including human rights, social justice, and the power of individual action in the United States and around the world,” says the RFK Human Rights website. “Launched in 1969 by the reporters who covered Senator Robert Kennedy’s presidential campaign, the prestigious RFK Journalism Awards honor a free and fair press and celebrate media professionals whose work explores issues of human rights, social justice, and the power of individual action.”

Senator Kennedy, a victim of gun violence, was shot and killed on June 5, 1968. Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights was created that same year to continue pursuing his dream of a more just and peaceful world. “It’s a tremendous honor for Long Shadow: In Guns We Trust to be recognized by — and forever associated with — the organization that bears his name,” says Long Lead Founding Editor John Patrick Pullen.
